About the Author: Giuseppe Agostino Orsi (1692-1761) became the top theologian of the Catholic church and a writer of numerous scholarly books. This is his sixth book of eleven and the first of two on baptism. This Latin book was found by Pastor D.S. Garza of Madera, California. It is of great interest for it reveals the debate among Catholic scholars through the centuries about baptism in the name of Jesus. In the Catholic church, this concerned the validity of baptism in the name of Jesus and the baptisms performed by ‘heretics.’ Oneness writer, Eugene Dominguez, annotates throughout the intriguing narrative of the dissertation.“Orsi’s historical account is filling in some of the gaps resulting from theological and church history terrain… we find a gold vein of information for evidencing even further into the details of the Jesus’ Name movement going back to the Apostles. Wait until you discover the impact of the varying modalists through history, as well as the pervasiveness of Jesus’ Name baptism… from the scholarship of a high-level academic… I highly recommend it.” Dr. Talmadge French, Atlanta, Georgia, USA.“The book itself is fascinating. It explores multiple aspects of issues concerning Jesus Name Baptism… The author mines historical writings on the subject from many sources, extending over a millennia and a half. So God has always had the truth upon the earth. This book is a valuable resource for all. It gives an amazing perspective on this eternally important subject. I can’t recommend it more highly. Dr. Steve Waldron, Albany, Georgia.“Astonishingly enough, Orsi, and other Catholic scholars that he quotes, not only concede the biblical text reveals the Apostles baptized in the name of Jesus, but they also contend for this position. For this reason, Orsi… and many other Catholic scholars contended that both formulas were valid at least in antiquity… As I read, I could not help but think of the words of the Psalmist, “Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain,” (Psalm 76:10). Rev. Larry Booker, Rialto, CA. Read more
